Who We Are
Yoga Omah Joglo was founded in 2022 as an independent yoga studio grounded in the Iyengar methodology. What started as one founder's personal recovery story has grown into a space serving beginners, advanced practitioners, corporate teams, independent teachers, and their student communities, all under one roof.
Our approach is built on three commitments:
Every session, from a one-on-one Yoga Therapy class to a full workshop, is documented in photos and video. It's part of how we work: students can see their own progress over time, and teachers use the same record to evaluate technique and plan the next step in each student's practice.
Not all yoga is the same. The Iyengar method, developed by B.K.S. Iyengar, is known for its precision: exact attention to alignment, sequencing, and timing in every posture, often supported by props like blocks, straps, and bolsters to make each pose accessible regardless of flexibility, age, or physical limitation.
A method built by necessity. B.K.S. Iyengar was a sickly child with a low life expectancy, sent to study yoga as a teenager largely to improve his health. Decades of precise, patient practice transformed his own body, and shaped a method that spread globally: his 1966 book Light on Yoga became one of the most widely translated yoga texts in the world, and by his death in 2014 at age 95, his method was taught at hundreds of centers worldwide.
Why alignment matters here. This precision is what makes the method particularly effective for therapeutic work, correcting postural imbalances, and rehabilitation, not just building strength or flexibility. It's this same careful, incremental attention to alignment that our teachers bring into every session, whether the goal is a deeper practice or simply moving through daily life with more ease.
Our teachers bring the same emphasis on:
- Alignment, correct positioning of the body in every posture
- Precision, exact, deliberate movement rather than approximate shapes
- Awareness, understanding what each part of the body is doing and why
- Progressive development, building safely from foundational postures toward more advanced ones
A practice, not a skill to master. Yoga isn't something you learn once and complete, the way you might master a form in martial arts. It's called a practice because you return to it again and again, and the same posture can feel entirely different day to day depending on the body and mind you bring to the mat.
Why our teachers matter. Alignment errors are usually invisible to the person making them. A trained teacher sees what a student can't see about their own body, and adjusts before a small imbalance becomes an injury, which is why every class here is guided, never self-directed from a memorized sequence.
Yoga Omah Joglo is an independent studio and is not an official Iyengar centre or affiliated institution. "Iyengar" refers to the teaching methodology our teachers are trained in. Individual results vary; Yoga Therapy is not a substitute for medical diagnosis or treatment.
Wienny N Laksmi
Founder & Head Teacher · 15+ Years in Practice
Wienny's path to yoga began in Bali, in the quiet of temple grounds and the stillness of certain ceremonies there. It was in that contemplation that she first felt a kind of peace she hadn't found elsewhere, and it drew her deeper into practice.
What kept her there was personal. Over time, her practice became more than movement, it brought steadier strength, better posture, and a calmer mind that carried into everyday life. That experience changed how she saw yoga. It wasn't just a form of exercise; it was something worth sharing with others looking for that same sense of balance.
The studio itself came from a different kind of necessity. During the pandemic, when indoor spaces felt restrictive and interaction was limited, Wienny saw an opportunity in the opposite direction: a studio built outdoors, in a joglo house, surrounded by garden and open air, a rare thing to find in Jakarta. Yoga Omah Joglo was founded in 2022 on that idea, bringing over 15 years of personal practice and her Iyengar certification into a space designed to breathe.
Today, Wienny still teaches regularly, shaping the studio's programs around the same principles that changed her own practice: alignment, precision, and awareness, taught in a space that respects both the body and the tradition it comes from.
Every teacher at Yoga Omah Joglo is grounded in the Iyengar methodology and certified in the practice. Certification in this method isn't a weekend course: it involves structured training in alignment principles, supervised teaching practice, and ongoing assessment, which is why every instructor here brings the same emphasis on alignment, precision, and progressive development into every class they lead, regardless of who's teaching that day. Our teachers are continuously trained and committed to providing the highest quality of teaching and care in every session.
